Total Fire Ban Thursday
The Rural Fire Service has declared a Total Fire Ban for the Hunter region tomorrow ahead of forecast windy conditions.
Both Maitland and Cessnock are tipped to hit tops of 27 degrees, with winds of up to 45km/h predicted for the middle of the day.
The wind is only set to somewhat ease in the evening, with speeds to still be between 25 and 35km/h.
As result, a severe fire risk is posed.
No fires are to be lit in the open during a Total Fire Ban, and all current fire permits are suspended.
Electric and gas barbeques can be used during a ban under certain conditions, however any barbeque or pizza oven that uses solid fuel, such as wood, charcoal or heat beads, cannot be used.
Lighting a fire during a Total Fire Ban can attract a $2200 on-the-spot fine, while the $660 penalty for tossing out a lit cigarette doubles to $1320.
