Tocal Field Days launch scholarship program
The Tocal Field Days Association has launched a scholarship program targeting event management students.
Based over five years, the scholarship will see recipients work at the annual event each year, where they will be paid under the national award and receive a $2000 educational scholarship at the conclusion.
The students will be rotated through different aspects of the event, taking on supervisory roles as they progress through the program.
Tocal Field Days manager Wendy Franklin said the program was designed to provide practical work experience for the students while also bolstering the event’s workforce.
“Like a number of other field days around Australia, we increasingly struggle to find young casual staff and volunteers to work at our event,” she said.
“We have outstanding students from Tocal College, but their expertise and passion is in agriculture, not event management.
“Those students change each year and can’t take on supervisory roles, so each year training starts from scratch.”
This year three Year 10 students will be awarded the scholarship. Continuing on, one scholarship will be awarded each year.
The 2019 Tocal Field Days will be held from May 3-5. For more information about the event or the scholarship visit tocalfielddays.com.
