This week at Maitland council: February 26
Maitland City Council will meet tomorrow night. On the agenda:
- Draft flying fox camp management policy
Council has developed a citywide policy to manage flying fox camps following the arrival of a camp in Tenambit, the third in Maitland in 10 years. The policy provides a guide for how to mitigate the impact of or disperse the camps based on existing legislation. Following endorsement from Council, the policy will be submitted to the Office of Environment and Heritage for approval then returned to Council to be placed on public exhibition before its final adoption.
- Councillor expenses
The latest councillor expenses report has been submitted, with total expenditure from July to December 2018 just over $7600. All councillors except for Peter Garnham, Kanchan Ranadive and Mike Yarrington claimed ICT expenses, with amounts ranging from $100 to $1100. Six councillors also claimed travel expenses, while Cr Robert Aitchison made a claim on professional development and Crs Sally Halliday and Philip Penfold submitted carer expenses.
- ‘Dive-in’ cinema proposal
A notice of motion from Cr Mitchell Griffin has asked council staff to investigate the possibility of an outdoor cinema being held at Maitland pool, based on programs used by Blacktown and Cumberland councils. The responsible group manager has said in reply that it is being considered as part of a current review of pool operations.
Maitland City Council meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. Meetings begin at 5:30pm and are open to the public. They are also live streamed through maitland.nsw.gov.au.
