Statewide fire ban for Tuesday
A Total Fire Ban for New South Wales will kick in at midnight tonight.
The Hunter region will be subject to ‘extreme’ fire conditions tomorrow, with Maitland tipped to reach 40 degrees while Cessnock is expected to peak at 39.
Unlike the previous warm weather the heat will not be hanging around for long though, with temperatures back to the low 30s on Wednesday.
No fires are to be lit in the open during a Total Fire Ban, and all current fire permits are suspended.
Electric and gas barbeques can be used during a ban under certain conditions, however any barbeque or pizza oven that uses solid fuel, such as wood, charcoal or heat beads, cannot be used.
Lighting a fire during a Total Fire Ban can attract a $2200 on-the-spot fine, while the $660 penalty for tossing out a lit cigarette doubles to $1320.
