Nominations open for Australia Day awards
Maitland and Cessnock councils have opened nominations for their Australia Day awards.
In Maitland the Citizen and Young Citizen of the Year will be awarded to individuals who enrich the city through their commitment and service to others.
Nominations are welcomed from all areas of city life including education, conservation, culture, environment, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, arts, sport and schools. Achievements which will be recognised include a single outstanding achievement in the last year or numerous achievements over many years.
Cessnock has several categories of awards, including Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Community Event, Sport, Environment, Heritage, along with Achievement and Appreciation awards.
A new award has also been introduced.
The Marie Callaghan Young Female Achiever Award acknowledges the barriers women face in seeking public office and being seen as leaders. The recipient will be a positive and inspirational role model to other young women, who shows leadership.
