Neighbourhood centre ready to distribute Christmas joy
200 Maitland families will have a slightly merrier Christmas this year thanks to the generosity of the community.
Maitland Neighbourhood Centre has received a flood of donations for their Christmas hampers which on Wednesday were being assembled by a small army of volunteers ready for distribution tomorrow.
Each family will receive some pantry staples, such as cereal and pasta, and luxury items like lollies and Christmas cake. Gifts will also be included for families with children.
“People are just really generous,” Maitland Neighbourhood Centre Manager Sarah Adams said.
“When we unloaded one bag we found a receipt for $52 – these people had just gone out and bought all that stuff.
“This is really nice because it gives people what they need.”
Maitland mayor Loretta Baker dropped off the last lot of donations yesterday – children’s gifts which had been donated by Council staff.
