MacDonald out of Maitland
Hunter Parliamentary Secretary Scot MacDonald will not run for Maitland in March’s state election, after being proposed as a candidate two months ago.
On Friday Mr MacDonald told media that he hadn’t ruled out the idea of taking on Labor’s Jenny Aitchison.
“I’d have to be working here, even if you lived a little bit out [that would be okay] but that hasn’t lined up for me at this point,” he said at the time.
“I don’t want to close the door either…for me, it’s watch this space.”
However this week he confirmed that he will not be nominating, ending the speculation about his immediate political future that began in November.
The decision has now opened the door for new potential candidates in Maitland, who Hunter Independent has been told are now in talks with the NSW Liberal Party.
