Federal Labor hits local campaign trail
Although an election date has not been announced, Federal Labor have already hit the local campaign trail promising 50 Department of Human Services jobs for the electorate.
Shadow Minister for Human Services Ed Husic made the announcement with incumbent Meryl Swanson on Monday, which would see the permanent, full-time positions created in the seat of Paterson, which covers Maitland, Port Stephens and Kurri Kurri, if Labor is elected to government.
Ms Swanson said that the jobs would reduce waiting and processing times for the community.
“Every week my office fields dozens of calls for assistance with Centrelink,” Ms Swanson said.
“People are spending hours, if not days, on the phones trying to get answers.
“These roles will be permanent and full time, and staff will be properly trained to assist our community to receive the support they need.”
No other candidates for the election have been announced.
