Canceled NYE fireworks scheduled for June
Maitland City Council’s canceled New Year’s Eve fireworks display has been rescheduled to June’s winter solstice.
The fireworks were canceled before 9pm that evening after a severe and prolonged storm passed over the region.
They will now be let off at the After Dark – Winter Solstice activity, which will be held on Saturday, June 22 in The Levee.
The event will run from 5pm and finish with the fireworks at 9pm, with entertainment, food, fire performances and open fires throughout the precinct.
“We are excited to announce this After Dark activity with the addition of the amazing PRD Nationwide Hunter Valley fireworks display that we didn’t manage to use on New Year’s Eve,” Council’s Place Activation Officer David Graham said.
“Winter Solstice celebrates the shortest day of the year in the southern hemisphere and I really encourage everyone to head to The Levee, bring their family and friends, help us to warm the streets and soak up what will no doubt be a great atmosphere.”
