17 naturalised in citizenship ceremony
Like many before him, Trevor Livingstone came to Australia in pursuit of a woman.
He met his now-wife Carlie in England and when she had to return home to an unwell father he decided to follow.
12 years on Mr Livingstone has a home in East Maitland and two sons, and on Wednesday he became an Australian citizen.
Mr Livingstone was one of 17 people who took the affirmation at Maitland Town Hall, joining people from India, Malaysia, Vietnam, Iran and Bhutan as naturalised members of the Maitland community.
With Carlie, nine-year-old Thomas and six-year-old Toby, Mr Livingstone settled in George Street almost twelve months ago after living in Glebe and Lane Cove.
Often working from home as a technical lead for a software company, a job he was able to transfer from England, Mr Livingstone said he hasn’t looked back.
“There’s lovely people, no traffic and lovely scenery,” he said.
“Everything just fell into place.
“It was meant to be.”
